SOUTH KOREA TO JOIN HORIZON PROGRAMME
On 25 March, the European Commission announced that the Republic of Korea will soon join the growing group of countries associated to Horizon Europe from 2025.
“I am happy to welcome Korea into the Horizon family. This is a milestone for our cooperation and great news for global science and innovation. Together, we will be able to tackle global challenges more effectively” said Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth.

EURASHE MEETS IPCA
On 1st March 2024, EURASHE Secretary-General John Edwards visited the Portuguese Politécnico do Cávado e do Ave (IPCA), hosted by President Prof. Maria José Fernandes.
Prof. Fernandes presented the institution’s evolution at different levels, from research to training, highlighting cooperation with partners, namely RUN-EU, of which IPCA is an integral part, together with HE institutions from several EU countries. The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss synergies and future collaborations.
LXXXVII BFUG BOARD MEETING
On 12 March, the BFUG Board convened in the Vatican City. The discussions centered around the organisation and program structuring for the upcoming Ministerial Conference and Global Policy Forum.
In-depth deliberations were conducted regarding the development of the draft Communique and GPF statement, alongside the thorough examination of final reports from the BFUG Working Structures.
As one of the consultative members of the Bologna Process, EURASHE is actively participating in the meetings leading to the ministerial conference in Tirana in May 2024. The current period is focusing on shaping the proposals of priorities for the ministers and the upcoming years in the integration of European Integration.

HORIZON STRATEGIC PLAN 2025-27 PUBLISHED
The European Commission has published the strategic plan outlining the priorities and work of the last three years of the Horizon programme.
Three key strategic orientations for research and innovation investments are at the heart of the document:

- Green transition
- Digital transition
- More resilient, competitive, inclusive & democratic Europe.
Additionally, the Strategic Plan identifies nine new European co-funded partnerships and introduces the New European Bauhaus facility.

MFHEA LAUNCHES 5TH EDITION OF REFERENCING REPORT
The fifth edition for the Referencing Report reflects multiple changes that have occurred in the Maltese education sector over recent years while maintaining established, strong foundations and ensuring consistent quality. This report represents the updated educational framework for Malta, outlining the main pathways across compulsory, further, and higher education in Malta, both within academic and vocational education. Providing a clearer understanding of the relationship between levels and credits, as well as information on credit requirements associated with the MQF Levels and qualifications. Ultimately, this edition aims to further improve clarity and comparability of qualifications.
A few words regarding the EUROGRADUATE survey. This is a pilot survey conducted among graduates across select European countries. Its objective is to pave the way for a sustainable survey of graduates on a European scale. This initiative represents an exciting opportunity to map out the impact that European graduates’ experiences during their time as students have had on their professional lives and their contributions as European citizens.
These two initiatives, that MFHEA celebrated on this day, are designed to offer valuable guidance to educational institutions, learners, employers, and the international community.

4TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON EUROPE IN DISCOURSE
Hellenic American University announces the 4th International Europe in Discourse Conference, which aims to explore Europe through all its constitutive dimensions, history, culture, geography and values. The event is taking place in Athens, Greece from 26-28 September 2024.
A call for abstracts is currently open, with submissions accepted until 15 April.

INFINITE: ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE FOR PROFESSIONAL AND PEDAGOGICAL PRACTICES IN HIGHER EDUCATION
The INFINITE project aims to make the best use of AI for teaching, learning and assessment in Higher Education (HE).
The project aims to prepare:
- academics to use AI for innovative teaching and assessment,
- students to leverage AI for their learning.

BULGARIAN COUNCIL OF RECTORS ELECTS NEW PRESIDENT
On 13 March, Prof. Miglena Temelkova, Rector of EURASHE member University of Telecommunications and Post (UTP) was elected President of the Council of Rectors in Bulgaria. She is the first female President of the Rectors Council in the last 20 years. Her election on this position is recognition of UTP’ s fast development and innovative approach.
METROPOLIA UAS PROJECT SELECTED AS NEW EUROPEAN BAUHAUS FINALIST
The Circular Green Blocks project has been selected as one of the finalists for the New European Bauhaus Prizes 2024, standing out from over 530 applications. The winners of the NEB Prizes 2024 will be announced during the New European Bauhaus Festival in Brussels on April 12. The online public voting is open until March 27.

COIMBRA GROUP LAUNCHES SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMME FOR SHORT RESEARCH STAYS IN EUROPE
Coimbra Group member universities are offering almost 90 scholarships for young professors and researchers that are both national and residents of Latin American, Sub-Saharan Africa or European neighbourhood countries.
With the aim to enable scholars to internationalise the research they perform at their home institution and help them establish academic and research contacts in Europe, the initiative supports short-term research visits to one of the 22 participating universities on the European Continent.
EQAF 2024 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS
Applications are open for the 2024 European Quality Assurance Forum, hosted by the University of Twente (The Netherlands) from 14-16 November. The title of this year’s Forum is ‘Enhancing education, research and societal engagement through quality assurance’.
The call for contributions welcomes submissions from quality assurance practitioners at higher education institutions and quality assurance agencies, students, and researchers in the field. The deadline to submit proposals is 23 June 2024.

EUA REPORT ON TRANSNATIONAL JOINT EDUCATION PROVISION
The strategic importance of this topic on a European level is one of the reasons it was selected for the 2023 EUA Learning & Teaching Thematic Peer Group entitled “Challenges and enablers in designing transnational joint education provision”.
The group’s findings are compiled in this report, which outlines the group’s conceptual understanding of the term, benefits and challenges of engaging in transnational joint education provision, and recommendations geared towards higher education leadership, staff members, as well as national and regional-level governments.
