EUROBAROMETER: SKILLS SHORTAGES A MAJOR ISSUE FOR SMEs
A new Eurobarometer survey, released on 14 November, finds that skills shortages are one of the most serious problems for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in the EU. The challenge of skills shortages has grown over the years and now encompasses all EU Member States and all sectors of the economy.

ATHENA SECOND TRANSNATIONAL MEETING
Last week, the team from ATHENA met at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona for two days of in-depth discussions about the activities carried out so far and what lays ahead before the project ends in December 2024.
AIRinVET MAPPING REPORT PUBLISHED
Thanks to a collaborative effort, the AIRinVET team has put together this extensive report providing an inventory of existing practices and practical examples in Applied Research and Innovation carried out by vocational education and training centres. The mapping exercise covers a wide range of organisations pertaining to provide vocational education with a view to enhancing peer-learning amongst practitioners.

EQAR MEMBERS’ DIALOGUE
Hot topics on the agenda were the 2024-2028 strategy as well as the framework of the QA-FIT project.
BOLOGNA FOLLOW-UP GROUP LXXXVI MEETING
Members and consultative members discussed the draft of the upcoming Tirana Communique developments of the BFUG working groups, the future of the Bologna process, and presented the latest updates from the consultative members.
2023 EUROPEAN QUALITY ASSURANCE FORUM (EQAF)
he Forum will engage participants in discussions on quality assurance policies and practices that support emerging forms of internationalisation. Key questions to be addressed include the role of quality assurance in promoting sustainability in transnational mobility, the adaptability of European tools like the European Standards and Guidelines (ESG) for the future, and how the European framework aligns with quality assurance beyond the European Higher Education Area (EHEA).

NEW COUNCIL RECOMMENDATION ADOPTED
On 15 November, the European Commission adopted the proposal for a Council Recommendation ‘Europe on the Move’ – learning mobility opportunities for everyone, as part of the Talent Mobility package. Commissioner Iliana Ivanova delivered a speech at the press conference following adoption of the Recommendation.

JOINT DECLARATION OF THE THIRD EU4DUAL RECTOR’S COUNCIL
The EU4Dual Rector’s Council meet on 6-7 November at the John von Neumann University in Kecskemét, Hungary, to take stock of the first ten months of the Alliance’s activities and coordinated plans for the second year of operation. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to become the quality reference for dual higher education and the largest integrated dual education institution in the world. This will be reflected in a tripling of student and academic mobility between institutions and promoting the dual education model globally through the development of a quality label for dual education.
AGRIFOOD FORUM 2023
This AgriFood Forum’s primary focus is to address an array of multifaceted difficulties besetting the agri-food ecosystem. Unprecedented global events, such as COVID-19’s effects on logistics and human resources and the extreme weather phenomena caused by climate change, have made the sector’s problems worse in recent years. The geopolitical landscape, including recent crises like the Russian invasion of Ukraine, has injected another layer of complexity, raising the costs of critical inputs like energy and fertilizers. These stressors are immediate in their impact and have long-term implications for food security and economic stability across nations.
CAASS INTERNATIONAL MULTIDISCIPLINARY CONFERENCE
The Conference “Challenges of Contemporary Higher Education” (CCHE) is set to gather researchers, academics, and scholars from diverse scientific fields and disciplines. The primary objective of this conference is to facilitate the exchange of valuable insights and viewpoints regarding the complex challenges and potential opportunities within modern higher education. This event is scheduled to occur in Kopaonik, Serbia, from January 29th to February 4th. It will be conducted in a hybrid format, enabling researchers from around the globe to engage and participate.

EURASHE CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
There is still a chance to contribute to our Annual Conference, titled “Stronger Together: Fostering Transnational Cooperation in Applied Universities”! We are currently accepting contributions to plenary sessions showcasing alliances for transnational cooperation, as well as for breakout sessions on applied research, quality assurance, skills, and regional impact. The deadline for contributions is 22 December 2023.
Presenting at the EURASHE Annual Conference allows you to reach a broad audience and receive visibility before, during, and afterwards. In addition, selected contributors benefit from a reduced fee to attend the Conference.
