For this reason, it is important that higher education institutions, as well as educators, facilitate critical thinking and the relevance of this democratic event. EURASHE ATTENDS EHEA MINISTERIAL CONFERENCE
On 29-30 May, European Higher Education Area Ministers from all over Europe are gathered in Tirana to pave a shared path on the fundamental values of education, internationalisation, and academic freedom. The EURASHE delegation was composed of President Hannes Raffaseder, Vice-President Jon Altuna, Secretary General John Edwards, and Policy Manager Jakub Grodecki.
EYS CLOSING EVENT
On 29 April, EURASHE Board member Ulla Preeden and Secretary General John Edwards represented out Association at the closing event of the European year of Skills in Brussels. Ulla and John shared their insights into how applied universities are bridging the theoretical and practical divide, producing highly skilled and work-ready graduates. Later, EURASHE moderated a session on skills intelligence.

EC EHEA BOLOGNA REPORT
On 27 May, the European Commission published the latest edition of its “The European Higher Education Area in 2024: Bologna Process Implementation” Report. The publication provides key data on the European Higher Education Area, focusing on degree structures, recognition, quality assurance, fundamental values, social dimension, learning and teaching, and internationalisation.
COUNCIL OF EUROPE ADOPTS MOBILITY RECOMMENDATIONS
On 14 May, the Council adopted the Council Recommendation “Europe on the Move”. The primary revisions in the European Commission Proposal include a slight reduction in the targets for Higher Education and vocational education and training (VET), with adjustments to 23% and 12% respectively. Additionally, the 20% inclusion target (percentage of beneficiaries with fewer opportunities) was removed, remaining only as a goal among Member States. Digital tools and blended solutions are referenced only if they facilitate physical mobility, excluding virtual mobility.

INTERNATIONAL STAFF TRAINING WEEK AT VILNIAUS KOLEGIJA (VIKO)
From 6-10 May, VIKO organised its International Staff Training Week titled “Applied RDI: Connect, Create, Change”, focusing on the acceleration of applied research, experimental development and innovation for more effective regional impact. The training week was organised in partnership with the EURASHE Research Community of Practice.

“KNOWLEDGE OR SKILLS” INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR
EURASHE Member Aix-Marseille University is hosting this event on 13 September. The goal of the seminar is to reflect on the challenges linked to skills offer and demand in European universities. Although the event is free of charge, participants are asked to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses.

The European university Association is organising the ‘What do the indicators say about the Bologna Process?’ webinar on 11 June, from 14.00 – 15.00 CEST. As part of the EUA series ‘Toward Tirana 2024, the Bologna Process and developments in the EHEA’, this event will present the monitoring framework of the Bologna Process, explore the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of assessing progress within the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), and showcase significant findings from the latest monitoring cycle.

EURYDICE REPORT ON NON-FORMAL AND INFORMAL LEARNING
Eurydice’s latest report “Validation of non-formal and informal learning in higher education in Europe” investigates opportunities for recognizing non-formal and informal learning across 37 higher education systems in Europe. The publication examines whether validating such learning experiences enables access to higher education programs and assesses how it can meet higher education study requirements. It also evaluates the types of learning activities that can be validated and the quality assurance mechanisms that support validation practices.
UNIMED-ESN REPORT ON HE IN THE MEDITERRANEAN
UNIMED and the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) have released the report titled “The Future of Higher Education in the Mediterranean: The Student’s Perspective.” This report compiles a series of recommendations made by over 20 students from the Euro-Mediterranean region, following the Mediterranean Student Summit (MSS) 2023 in Morocco. The recommendations are directed at universities, as well as national and international stakeholders, urging a collective reflection on how we can collaboratively devise concrete solutions for higher education.
