Prof. Anthony Dean is Professor of Performing Arts, Dean of Cultural Engagement and Dean of Faculty of Arts at the University of Winchester (www.winchester.ac.uk). He has considerable experience in developing new subject areas in higher education, particularly in creative fields – such as puppetry, circus and street arts. He is also interested in interaction between higher education study in the arts and related fields of professional arts practice as an integral part of the student learning experience. Anthony has considerable experience in quality assurance and enhancement in Higher Education, particularly in the subject areas of performing arts and art & design. He has worked extensively for the QAA, including as a Subject Reviewer, Institutional Auditor and ELIR Reviewer (for QAA Scotland), and he has been widely involved in matters of Quality Assurance and Enhancement, both within the UK and across Europe – undertaking QA reviews for SKVC (in Lithuania) and the EUA. He currently serves as a board member of a number of arts organisations and is the Co-Director of the ELIA (www.elia-artschools.org) NEU/NOW Festival (www.neunow.com) for emerging artist across Europe and is a founding member of the management group for EQ-Arts (www.eq-arts.org), an agency that promotes a Quality Assurance and Enhancement methodology specifically tailored for Higher Arts Education Institutions.
