Alice Andrieux is the new Communications and Events Intern of EURASHE. Get to know her better through this interview, where she shares her views about EURASHE, inspirations, and interests.

Hello Alice, could you introduce yourself to the EURASHE network? Who are you?

Hi! I would describe myself as a creative and curious person with a keen interest in understanding why simple things are the way they are and how they work. I enjoy questioning, learning, and embracing change when necessary. Art, culture, and photography inspire me deeply. In short, I like to explore cultures from around the world, adapting, learning, and connecting with diverse perspectives. I speak French, Spanish and English, I’m currently improving my Dutch.

I have lived in different regions of France (so I don’t have a straightforward answer to “Where are you from?”), in Spain, Suriname, and have spent some time in Latin America. Recently I have moved to Brussels, where I decided to stick around for a while.

What experiences from your previous jobs will help you in this new role?

I bring valuable experience in event management and communication from my experience at the French Embassy in Suriname and Guyana, where I confirmed my organizational and interpersonal skills. Additionally, my active involvement in the associative field has equipped me with autonomy and the ability to successfully oversee multiple projects simultaneously.

Having recently completed my master’s degree in International Relations, following a degree in Plastic Arts, I’ve developed a blend of creative and analytical skills. My academic journey represents a personal achievement and reflects my adaptability, determination, and ability to bridge diverse fields, qualities I believe will be assets in this new role.

After a few days in EURASHE already, how do you see the organisation?

After a few days at EURASHE, I’ve experienced a very warm welcome from the team, which has made settling in easy and enjoyable. I’m looking forward to working alongside the team and contributing to EURASHE’s mission.

What are your main goals as the new Communications and Events Intern?

My primary goal is to quickly familiarise myself with the key acronyms associated with the Higher Education sector to ensure effective communication. I aim to keep EURASHE’s network updated and to engage stakeholders through our channels. Additionally, I want to support the organisation’s events to ensure their smooth execution and contribute to their success.

What are the first tasks you are working on?

You will find me working on our 34th Annual Conference, which will take place in Portalegre in Portugal from 14th to 15th May 2025.

Which do you think should be the priorities when organising the next Annual Conference?

I would say that the priorities for organising our next Annual Conference should focus on effective communication and good planning to ensure attendance and engagement.

What are the main challenges facing Applied Higher Education Institutions?

I think Applied Higher Education Institutions face challenges such as adapting to digitalization while ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all students.

Tell us, what is your biggest inspiration?

One of my inspiration comes from the words of Malala Yousafzai: ‘Let us pick up our books and our pens, they are our most powerful weapons. One child, one teacher, one book and one pen can change the world.’ This quote reminds me of the power of education and the importance of it.

How does a perfect day look for you

Every day is different, and that’s what makes them exciting. But a perfect day for me definitely includes a warm cup of chocolate to make it even better.

A wish?

I believe that wishes are best kept unspoken to keep their magic alive, so I’ll keep mine.

A song?
