The H.U.CO Labs project has officially kicked off, hosted by project coordinator ITS Cuccovillo. This week, the consortium met in Bari, Italy, for 1.5 days of networking and setting out the workplan of the project.

The Collaborative Hvet-University-Company Labs for Research project (H.U.CO Labs) brings together Vocational Education and Training institutions, universities, and companies to develop technicians’ skills that will facilitate synergies and innovation in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The key goal of the project is to pilot pathways (EQF 5th and 6th) in advanced manufacturing, eventually establishing a European Platform or ‘coalition of the willing’ among training providers to develop such integrated skills across different innovative sectors of the economy.

The event, hosted at Masseria Carriello Nuovo and JR Hotel Grande Albergo delle Nazioni, provided a platform for project partners to align on objectives, implementation strategies, and best practices. Key discussions revolved around project management, communication, research and training development, and quality assurance.

Among the highlights, Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) led efforts on defining the role of an advanced R&D technician, while the Polytechnic University of Valencia introduced a Quality Assurance Plan. EURASHE outlined a strategic communication and dissemination plan, including the launch of the HUCO Labs website.

The meeting also welcomed key institutional and industry representatives, including the European Education and Culture Agency (EACEA), the Italian Ministry of Education and Merit, and companies such as Omron Electronics Spa and Masmec Spa. Their contributions reinforced the project’s alignment with European innovation priorities and its potential long-term impact.

Looking ahead, the consortium will refine the HUCO Labs website, finalise communication strategies, and commence research and training activities. A follow-up meeting on financial management and reporting is also planned.

Stay tuned for updates on HUCO Labs as it advances the future of Additive Manufacturing education and research.
