Applied eXel is a framework for assessing excellence in applied higher education. It has been developed as part of a UNESCO Chair Program held by Higher Colleges of Technology (UAE). EURASHE and several of its members are partners in this initiative.
Project description
Current means of assessing higher education institutions, from quality assurance to labels and rankings, do not incorporate the specific characteristics and added value of practice-based education and research. However, there may soon be a solution.
As part of a UNESCO Chair Program held by EURASHE partner HCT, Applied eXel is an assessment framework that has been tested and will now be piloted. Starting in fall 2025 and ending at the EURASHE Annual Conference, the pilot will involve around 20 institutions from different parts of the world.
Following self-assessment, institutions will be paired with another to carry out a peer review. The final stage will be a benchmarking workshop and brainstorming about how applied eXel can become a global excellence label.
Institutions interested in participating are invited to read this document and complete the application form. The pilot will include no more than 20 institutions, with selection guided by a commitment to regional diversity and global balance. Once the group is finalised, the pilot will officially begin.
