The Micro-Credentials Masterclass (MCMC) unites education practitioners, policymakers, stakeholders, and other experts in the industry working on state-of-the-art personalised learning and career pathways. Our vision is to tackle social, economic, and environmental challenges by championing shortform education as the currency of human capital. The Masterclass draws inspiration from previous successful editions. It also leverages the European Union’s Council Recommendation on a European Approach to Micro-Credentials to expedite the adoption of micro-credentials globally.
The last edition of the MCMC featured 27 speakers showcasing visionary ideas from largescale micro-credentialing projects in the US, Canada, Australia, Latin America, Africa, and Europe. National micro-credentialing strategists from Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland and Spain took the podium to share their vision for the future. Headlining speakers were brought in from the European Commission, the OECD, The State University of New York, and Toronto Metropolitan University.
The MasterClass concept means that every person has an opportunity to learn from their peers – all experts in the field.
Format of the Programme
Our format is designed to ensure that speakers and participants can exchange ideas in an informal setting. All speakers shall deliver short lecture presentations to an intimate expert audience, they are encouraged to bring their best ideas and use this event to get feedback, not just to present. Further information on the agenda will be shared with the chosen contributors from this call closer to the event.
MCMC 2025 will feature six thematic sessions covering:
- Recognition and mobility – considering the impact of micro-credentials and transnational lifelong learning perspectives across higher education and VET.
- Innovation – looking at the impact of new technologies, in particular AI on microcredential design and generation.
- Social inclusion – using micro-credentials to create accessible and inclusive personalised learning pathways.
- Industry partnerships – examining how to upscale use of short-form learning in formal educational contexts.
- Quality Assurance – discussing the creation of open trust frameworks to ensure that micro-credentials are tools that empower their holders.
- Interoperability – examining how to upscale institutional credentialing models.
