SynHERA has just published the Benchmark Report from the Boosting Inclusion of Students in Research Activities (BLIST) project. The publication highlights current practices and challenges in involving students in research activities across European Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

Based on a survey of HEIs and Universities of Applied Sciences (UAS) from Belgium, France, and Portugal, the report reveals significant fragmentation in student inclusion policies. While 75% of students received support for engaging in research, 25% did not, particularly in the arts sector, where science and technology received more focus.

The findings emphasise the need for a more inclusive framework to ensure equal research opportunities for students, regardless of their field. Notably, research strategies at HEIs are becoming more cohesive, but a lack of standardised inclusion methods creates inequality. Gender discrepancies and inconsistent international mobility support were also identified, with male students participating in research and mobility programs at higher rates than female students. The report also highlights the crucial role of International Relations Offices in facilitating student mobility programs like Erasmus+.
