XC BFUG MEETING: NEWS REGARDING THE LEARNING AND TEACHING GROUP

The Learning and Teaching Group report was officially adopted during the latest BFUG meeting. EURASHE, Ireland, and France co-chaired the group over those years. The report explores the implementation of the recommendations set forth at the 2020 Rome Conference of Ministers. These recommendations are vital for enhancing higher education learning and teaching within the EHEA. We would like to thank all the members of the group and the co-chairs involved in this endeavour.

As we move into the next cycle of the Bologna Process during next month’s Tirana Ministerial Conference, learning and teaching will play a crucial role. In light of recent advancements in online education and generative AI, emphasising Student-Centred Learning (SCL) and the development of staff and academic careers, we are poised to see significant transformations that will further elevate the quality and effectiveness of higher education. It will be crucial to find a way to collaborate and develop through which the policy will meet the practice, where higher education institutions together with national authorities will together develop further the answers to the challenges ahead.

IAU SITE VISIT

On the 3rd and 4th of April, EURASHE attended the International Association of Universities (IAU) Institutional Site Visit at Utrecht University, which focused on Open Science. 23 delegates representing Universities and Associations from 20 different countries gathered to exchange perspectives on Open Science and to learn about how Utrecht University became a pioneer in implementing Open Science principles.

Transitioning towards Open Science is a collaborative effort that demands substantial cooperation and necessitates both intra- and inter-institutional leadership. We would like to express our gratitude to Utrecht University and the International Association of Universities (IAU) for arranging this insightful site visit!

Over the past few months, EURASHE has been examining the significance of Open Science in an Applied Science context. To accomplish this, EURASHE established a Task Force on Open Science, which aims to examine how Applied Higher Education Institutions can benefit from Open Science practices and how the scientific process can be improved through the implementation of such practices. The findings will be summarised in the form of a statement and presented at the EURASHE Annual Conference.
