EU COMMISSION INCREASES HORIZON FUNDING
The Commission has adopted an amendment to the 2023-24 Horizon Work Programme of Horizon Europe, mobilising previously unallocated Horizon Europe funding to increase the 2024 budget by nearly €1.4 billion to a total of €7.3 billion.

WIN4SMEs PROJECT KICKS OFF IN HAMBURG
The WIN4SMEs project aims to enhance workplace innovation in SMEs by fostering skilled workforce, entrepreneurship, and knowledge transfer. EURASHE colleagues John Edwards and Jakub Grodecki travelled to Hamburg to represent the Association during the kick-off event.
BWSE FOR2030 POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS
The recommendations published by the BWSE FOR2030 project tackle issues and suggestions concerning the inclusivity, innovation, and interconnectedness of the EHEA. These challenges and recommendations emerged from three Peer Learning Activities (PLAs) conducted in 2023.

XC BFUG MEETING: NEWS REGARDING THE LEARNING AND TEACHING GROUP
The Learning and Teaching Group report was officially adopted during the latest BFUG meeting. EURASHE, Ireland, and France co-chaired the group over those years. The report explores the implementation of the recommendations set forth at the 2020 Rome Conference of Ministers. These recommendations are vital for enhancing higher education learning and teaching within the EHEA. We would like to thank all the members of the group and the co-chairs involved in this endeavour.
As we move into the next cycle of the Bologna Process during next month’s Tirana Ministerial Conference, learning and teaching will play a crucial role. In light of recent advancements in online education and generative AI, emphasising Student-Centred Learning (SCL) and the development of staff and academic careers, we are poised to see significant transformations that will further elevate the quality and effectiveness of higher education. It will be crucial to find a way to collaborate and develop through which the policy will meet the practice, where higher education institutions together with national authorities will together develop further the answers to the challenges ahead.
IAU SITE VISIT
On the 3rd and 4th of April, EURASHE attended the International Association of Universities (IAU) Institutional Site Visit at Utrecht University, which focused on Open Science. 23 delegates representing Universities and Associations from 20 different countries gathered to exchange perspectives on Open Science and to learn about how Utrecht University became a pioneer in implementing Open Science principles.
Transitioning towards Open Science is a collaborative effort that demands substantial cooperation and necessitates both intra- and inter-institutional leadership. We would like to express our gratitude to Utrecht University and the International Association of Universities (IAU) for arranging this insightful site visit!
Over the past few months, EURASHE has been examining the significance of Open Science in an Applied Science context. To accomplish this, EURASHE established a Task Force on Open Science, which aims to examine how Applied Higher Education Institutions can benefit from Open Science practices and how the scientific process can be improved through the implementation of such practices. The findings will be summarised in the form of a statement and presented at the EURASHE Annual Conference.

TACKLING SKILLS AND LABOUR SHORTAGES IN EUROPE
The European Commission recently presented an action plan to work in partnership with Member States to address skills and labour shortages. Highlights include the financing of new projects on activating NEETs and co-financing more CoVEs, with 100 new ones created by 2027.

MQRIC NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM
The MQRIC within the MFHEA hosted The National Symposium held in conjunction with the ERASMUS project “Road to Automatic Recognition of Higher Education Access Qualifications (ARAQUA)” on 23 April 2024. This preliminary step towards implementation of Automatic Recognition of Higher Education Access qualifications in Malta and the EU presented a great deal of applicable policy information, project goals, and ultimately recommendations and suggestions on implementation (which solicited a great deal of stakeholder engagement).

SYNHERA INFORMATION DAY ON EU FUNDING
On 25th April, SynHERA organised an information day about EU funding programme for research for UAS, in the frame of the Belgian Presidency of EU Council.
About 100 people participated among teachers/ researchers, research coordinators and students. The programme presentation alternated with testimonials of projects coordinators sharing their experience and good practices on EU projects management. In the afternoon we presented our Erasmus+ partnerships cooperation project Boosting incLusion of Students In research acTivities (BLIST) in particular our benchmark results on current practices of students’ inclusion in research activities.
STEELCASE SURVEY ON HIGHER EDUCATION ECOSYSTEMS
Steelcase is currently undergoing a research project to better understand the higher-education ecosystem in France, Germany, the UK and North America. The survey is designed to assess changes in space, technology, and pedagogy, as well as identify the needs and priorities of Decision-makers & Educators have in learning spaces.
The survey should take no longer than 13 minutes. All efforts have been made to ensure anonymity and the aggregated data will be kept for a maximum period of 3 months when the research period is over.

PORTALEGRE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY INTERNATIONAL WEEK
The Portalegre Polytechnic University will hold a new edition of the International Week, this time between 6 and 10 May 2024.
During this week, several participants from international partner institutions of this University will meet. According to their area of work, participants will develop teaching sessions for students and/or participate in training events and meetings with the various departments and sections of Portalegre Polytechnic University of their interest.
Besides the work sessions, the Portalegre Polytechnic University visitors will have the opportunity to get to know some of the most representative places of the region and visit relevant companies and institutions.
