About EURASHE

Europe’s House of Applied Sciences

Founded in 1990, EURASHE has a mission to promote the value of applied higher education at both national and European level. It is committed to fostering international cooperation and enhancing the global engagement of its member institutions.

In a rapidly changing world, higher education, research, and innovation must swiftly adapt to emerging needs and challenges. While Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are expected to evolve, no single institution can address societal challenges alone. A systemic approach—rooted in policy cooperation and the development of ecosystems at local, regional, and national levels—is essential.

Universities of Applied Sciences are uniquely positioned to meet these challenges. They bridge practical skills with theoretical knowledge, a balance that policymakers and employers alike recognise as invaluable. As the European Association for the Applied Sciences in Higher Education, EURASHE occupies a distinct space in applied higher education: we bridge the divide between “universities” focused on knowledge creation and “other HEIs” limited to teaching and labor-market skills, fostering an integrated and dynamic approach.

Our vision is a future where European, national and regional authorities highly value the bridges that make ecosystems work:

  • applied research that bridges academia, business and society,
  • higher education that bridges theory and practice, and
  • institutions that bridge the local and global perspectives.

We envision for the applied sciences to get the credit they deserve, and for this to be reflected in perception and resources.

Our vision is implemented at Applied Sciences House: a space for collaboration and knowledge sharing at our office on Rue de la Science 14 A, at the heart of the European Quarter in Brussels. A welcoming, inclusive and participative environment, open to current members and stakeholders as well as prospective partners.
