Abstract | This paper considers the case of the national approach to quality in higher education (HE) in Scotland, at a time of transition between implementation cycles. The approach combines quality assurance and quality enhancement and is termed the ‘Scottish Quality Enhancement Framework’. The first cycle extended from 2003 to 2007; there has been a year of review, reflection and development during 2007-2008, and the second cycle commences from the start of academic year 2008-09. The paper focuses on: - evaluation and review of the first cycle, describing the approaches to review and the broad findings; and - future directions and changes proposed for the second cycle; and - key issues of work-in-progress, which will inform discussion at the conference workshop. |
