Summary

InnoEvent is an annual innovation event, which brings together 500-700 students from Erhvervsakademiet Lillebælt (EFQ 5) (IT, multimedia education) and healthcare professional education at University College Lillebælt (EFQ 6).

It’s a weeklong event where multidisciplinary students work together creating innovative solutions to real problems with solutions to staff, patients and relatives. During the process the students have the possibility to discuss with the staff of Odense University Hospital (OUH) and teachers from the institutions. Innoevent ends with an award show, where the best ideas are rewarded. After the event the projects can be further developed in e.g. an internship at OUH.

The aim of the project is to give students the tools to work with other professions and industries in an innovative context. It lays the ground for founding new companies and creating new jobs, while preparing the students for the world of work. Each year OUH presents a series of challenges they are facing, or that they know they will be facing in the future. In addition both private and public companies and organisations are brought in for assessment and evaluation, which in some cases lead to further joint development and/or internships and employment.

Lessons learnt

A very time consuming project – however implemented in a flexible way in many curricula

The learning outcomes reflect essential knowledge, skills and attitudes related to the specific professional requirements, but should not be limited to this.

In addition, students acquire professional and life skills which enable them to act successfully, in an innovative and self-organised way in a changing work environment.

The involvement of students in research, development and innovation activities leads them to better professional practice

Additional information

Mission: To create new, innovative concepts where the newest knowledge and research comes into play, by using a triangulation where different educational backgrounds and a given industry are involved throughout the whole process.

Vision: To make humans prepared for grasping the challenges of society in the future and adapt to them.

Values: Lets do it! is our key phrase. When given a task, we believe it is important to foster an environment without any boundaries for imagination and creativity. Thus curiosity, open-mindedness and being socially adaptable are values we encourage and develop at InnoEvent

InnoEvent’s goal is to create an innovative platform, for mutually beneficial collaboration between students and businesses. Its aim is to give students the tools to work with other professions and industries in an innovative context. By doing so InnoEvent lays the ground for founding new companies and creating new jobs, while preparing the students for the world of work.

The concept has the ability to showcase the skills of the students, to a broader audience. Throughout the process experts from each field presented give feedback to the students, and the students are given the opportunity to consult other specialist trough the network of the hospital, and by so doing, the newest knowledge and research is being implemented. In addition both private and public companies and organisations are brought in for assessment and evaluation, which in some cases lead to further joint development and/or internships and employment.

The first InnoEvent was held in Odense in March 2010.

Eight new small businesses have been incubated via InnoEvent, and two welfare technology projects are now fully implemented at Odense University Hospital.

The purpose of InnoEvent is that students work together with skilled clinical staff and people from educational institutions, and businesses, to create innovative solutions for the hospital and the government.

During the entire InnoEvent week, the students from Lillebaelt Academy of Professional Higher Education (EAL) and University College Lillebaelt (UCL) work together in mixed groups. They collaborate in order to come up with innovative solutions, new processes, models and tools for Odense University Hospital (OUH).

The concepts are evaluated and judged on their value, realistic opportunity for implementation, and general quality of proposals. Professionals from the fields of health care and innovation do the judging. InnoEvent is now supported by Developing Fyn Municipal Ltd.
