European Universities Initiative and Universities of Applied Sciences: reflections for future success
EURASHE is organizing the workshop “European Universities Initiative and Universities of Applied Sciences: reflections for future success” on 11 October at the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the EU in Brussels, Belgium.
EURASHE considers that the European Universities initiative will change radically the higher education system in Europe by boosting the establishment of a genuine European Education Area. The importance that we attach to the European Universities makes us particularly concerned about the low representation of Professional Higher Education (PHE) institutions within the first call – European Universities 2019-EAC/A03/2018.
The objective of this workshop is, therefore, to analyse the experience of this call with the aim of identifying obstacles and weaknesses in the preparation of the proposals and possible solutions that we can provide, considering the five award criteria.
The workshop will also be the occasion to meet with potential partners for new alliances in view of the second call that the European Commission is going to launch soon.

Background and objectives
EURASHE considers that the European Universities initiative will change radically the higher education system in Europe by boosting the establishment of a genuine European Education Area. The European Universities alliances will increase the mobility of students and staff, foster the quality, inclusiveness and competitiveness of our Higher Education institutions, including their research and innovation capacities. This initiative is also essential to strengthen the European identity, based on a strong commitment with the European values and principles. The importance that we attach to the European Universities makes us particularly concerned about the low representation of Professional Higher Education (PHE) institutions within the first call – European Universities 2019-EAC/A03/2018.
The objective of this workshop is, therefore, to analyse the experience of this call with the aim of identifying obstacles and weaknesses in the preparation of the proposals and possible solutions that we can provide, considering the five award criteria: 1) relevance of the proposal; 2) geographical balance; 3) quality of the proposal and implementation; 4) quality of the alliance cooperation arrangements; and 5) sustainability and dissemination.
The workshop will also be the occasion to meet with potential partners for new alliances in view of the second call that the European Commission is going to launch soon.
