EURASHE is an official supporter of the European Citizens’ Initiative: Invest in Education that proposes to exclude from the calculation of each country’s public spending deficit, that part of Government spending for education that is lower than the last 5-year Eurozone average.
The goals of this European Citizen’s Initiative are to: 1) combat inequality by providing equal opportunities for education and training to all young people in Europe; 2) ensure adequate and appropriate infrastructures and tools for high quality education in Europe in times of crisis; 3) enhance and safeguard growth, development and democratic institutions; ensure the employability of younger generations through investment in education; and 4) support European policy Horizon 2020.
The European Citizens’ Initiative allows one million EU citizens to participate directly in the development of EU policies, by calling on the European Commission to make a legislative proposal for a topic they believe is important for improving the life of European citizens and ensure a better future for the young generation.
EURASHE encourages its members, professional higher education institutions and other higher education institutions to support this European Citizens’ Initiative.
