Network of the Universities from the Capitals of Europe (UNICA)

UNICA, Institutional Network of the Universities from the Capitals of Europe, has 46 members and combines the strength of over 150,000 staff members and 1,800,000 students in 35 countries. It was founded in 1990 and is a leading institutional academic inter-university network in Europe. Its role is to promote academic excellence, integration and co-operation between member universities throughout Europe. It seeks also to be a driving force in the development of the European Higher Education Area. UNICA is a collective associate member of European University Association (EUA) and the EUA Council for Doctoral Education (EUA-CDE). UNICA provides a forum in which universities can reflect on developments and challenges in research, education and administration. To achieve its aims, UNICA organizes activities in the following fields: Internationalisation & Mobility, Education, Research & Development, Policy & Strategy, and Mission & Link with Society. Among several EU projects that UNICA carries out, it is relevant pointing out to the Higher Education Reform Project (service contract with DG EAC and EACEA), aimed at assisting institutional implementation of reforms in Higher Education through materials, case studies, Virtual Community website and training seminars for National Teams of Bologna Experts and HE Reform Experts as well as other professionals involved in the modernization of HE (Heads of Institutions, Institutional Bologna Coordinators, Teachers, Student Unions, Policy Makers and other interested parties).
