In 1990, on the occasion of the commemoration of 50 years since the death of the philosopher, sociologist, jurist and man of culture Petre Andrei, a group of university teachers led by Petru P. Andrei, the scientist’s son, established the “Petre Andrei” Academic Foundation (FAPA), an apolitical and non-profit non-governmental organization.

Within FAPA, in the 1990-1991 academic year, the “Petre Andrei” Academic Foundation University (UFAPA) was established, which bore the name “Petre Andrei” University (Universitatea “Petre Andrei” – UPA) and which had three faculties: Law, Economics and Psychology. In 1998, the Faculty of Political Sciences was also established.

UPA is one of the largest universities in the country and the only private higher education institution with all accredited programs included in the educational offer.
