The University of Nicosia (www.unic.ac.cy) employs more than 500 full-time academic, research and administrative staff, serving more than 7,000 students. Through its five Schools: (a) Medical, (b) Business, (c) Education, (d) Humanities, Social Sciences and Law, and (e) Sciences and Engineering, it offers more than 80 programmes, leading to Bachelor, Master and Doctoral degrees. A number of programmes are offered in Distance Learning mode, utilizing state-of-the-art technology and pedagogical methods. The University has adopted a dynamic research strategy, focusing on applied research, for the benefit of the local community, country and wider region, engaging in internationally funded projects. The institution has distinguished itself by earning prestigious awards, such as the United Nations “Global 500” Award, for its contribution in the protection of the environment. It established the first UNESCO Chair in Cyprus, for the promotion of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue, and currently holds a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence. It was awarded the ECTS Label in 2012 and the Diploma Supplement Label in 2010 (renewed in 2013). In the forefront of technological developments, the University also received (in 2014) the UNIQUe Certification for Quality in E-learning and Excellence in use of ICT in Higher Education, awarded by the European Foundation for Quality in e-Learning (EFQUEL) and has joined in 2015 the E-xcellence Associates in Quality of the European Association of Distance Teaching Universities (EADTU). Moreover, the University was awarded the “Gold Medal” in Business Ethics Excellence (BEE) by the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN), as well as the Investors in People (IIP) certification. In 2014, it became the first and only university in Cyprus and Greece to achieve the EFQM recognition level “Recognized for Excellence – 5 Stars”, one of the most prestigious awards for organisational excellence, awarded by the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) to Europe’s best performing organizations.
