Taraz State University opened its doors on Sept. 3, 1958, when it welcomed about 1600 students and 114 professors. Through the next 60 years, the university continued to grow in size and academic offerings. The University is accredited by the National Accreditation Agency, which recognizes its compliance with standards of higher education. Many of university programs have separate accreditation as well. 12 university buildings in 2 campuses house about 1,700 faculty and instructional staff, and nearly 11,000 students. Academic staff includes well-known authors, and researchers, among them members of the National Academy of Sciences, Academy of Engineering and Academy of Natural Sciences. TarSU offers a broad range of degree programs: 60 bachelor programs, 39 master programs and 3 doctoral programs through 7 faculties. Our student body encompasses more than 10,000 undergraduates and more than 700 graduate students from across the country. International students from more than 10 countries comprise 1,0 percent of the student body. The university enrolls 1150 Government fellows. The National Student Exchange Mobility program allows students to study at one of nearly 100 institutions throughout the Kazakhstan. At the moment the university has active agreements with higher education institutions in more than 13 countries. The University is focusing efforts on entering the EHEA, making a contribution to the development of Eurasian integration. In 2015 the university became a member of Eurasian Association of Universities which unites universities of former Soviet area. TarSU is a member of The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation from 2012 along with the universities of China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Our academic staff and researchers gain experience in an international environment and develop key professional qualities in European universities under national and international funds. They are also actively engaged in DAAD and Mevlana Programs. TarSU advocates international study component as a part of degree and our students undertake outbound mobility programs. In 2015 TarSU is ranked number 6th in the National University Rankings among all the universities of Kazakhstan. The University total operating budget is about 15,3 million euros.
