The Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda State University (KKSU) is a leading centre of education, science and culture in the Pre-Aral Sea region and the Southern West part of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Its mission is to improve the learning and teaching process through the introduction of new technologies following the Bologna Process principles, to develop professional skills of the faculty and students of the University through a combination of theory and practice, training of highly competitive professionals. The Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda State University entered the TOP-300 of the best universities in Eastern Europe and Central Asia according to the QS University Rankings: Emerging Europe and Central Asia (QS EECA), ranking 273 last 2 years. According to the rating of the Independent Kazakh Agency for Quality Assurance in Education (IQAA) Korkyt Ata KSU occupied the 9th place among the multi-profile universities in 2018.
The higher education training of students is carried out through 30 departments and computer designing centre, 7 faculties providing 64 specialties of bachelor cycle, 30 specialties of master cycle and 9 specialties of PhD cycle programs to over 5500 students. The university has opened 7 PhD doctoral dissertation councils for defending doctorate dissertations. High scientific and pedagogical potential of the teaching staff implement educational activities at the university with the help of 18 doctors of sciences and professors, 18 doctors of philosophy (PhD), 198 candidates of sciences and docents and 191 masters of arts and sciences. On the way to joining the Bologna Process the university became a member of the Eurasia-Pacific UniNet, European Association of Institutions in Higher Education (EURASHE), Eurasia Association of Universities and Asia Association of Universities, Association of Economic Universities of South and Eastern Europe and Black Sea Region. KKSU joined the Bologna Process on September 15, 2005 signing the Magna Charta Universitatum at the University of Bologna. The university has obtained considerable experience in managing international projects. The university prepares specialists in different spheres of humanities and social sciences, natural, technical and agricultural sciences, pedagogy and arts, oil and gas and information technologies, etc.
The concept of qualifications frameworks has been introduced to describe each cycle in the degree system in terms of learning outcomes and competences. National frameworks should fit into an overarching framework for the European Higher Education Area.
Nowadays the university has established partnership relations with universities and leading research centers, foundations and public organizations of the USA, Canada, Great Britain, China, Egypt, India, Korea, Turkey, Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Poland, Spain, Belgium, Lithuania, Hungary, Bulgaria, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Ukraine, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan. More than 110 agreements and memoranda in the field of education, science, culture and technology have been signed and implemented. The scientists of the university obtain enormous research potential for accomplishing various international projects, research investigations, and other agreement works in the field of economical, pedagogical, engineering-pedagogical, technical and socio-humanitarian specialty areas. The university has been running 7 Tempus and Erasmus Mundus (Erasmus+) projects funded by the European Union for the last 7 years. The university participated in about 15 international projects as the main executor of the project or as the partner institution. All these projects have got follow-up activities which the university professors successfully accomplished. These projects have been dedicated to the development of education, science and culture between the targeted universities, including technical and agricultural assistance in developing professional curricula and programs in different spheres, oriented for marketing economy, requirements of industry and introduction of new technologies in education, upgrading instructors, teachers and personnel skills, exchange of student undergraduate, master, doctorate programs, exchange of language and cultural programs, organization of joint research and international projects, organization of crafts and arts shops, archaeological expeditions and others. All these projects have got follow-up activities which the university professors successfully accomplish. If we take into consideration some of them they have been implemented under the sponsorship of International Foundations, International Organizations, like Tempus, Canadian International Cooperation Agency, Turkish International Cooperation Administration, Foundation for the Research of the Turkic World or through the direct Agreement of Cooperation between the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda State University and Universities of the Republic of Korea, Republic of Turkey, Austrian Republic, Russian Federation, China, USA, Canada, United Kingdom and others. These projects have been dedicated to the development of education, science and culture between the targeted universities, including technical and agricultural assistance in developing professional curricula and programs in different spheres, oriented for marketing economy, requirements of industry and introduction of new technologies in education, upgrading instructors, teachers and personnel skills, exchange of student undergraduate, master, doctorate programs, exchange of language and cultural programs, organization of joint research and international projects, organization of crafts and arts shops, archaeological expeditions and others. The Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda State University has a certain expertise in implementing the activities concerning the academic mobility of students and academic staff, managerial personnel, experience with higher educational establishments, implementation of recognition mechanisms. Realizing international projects and academic mobility programs the Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda State University more than 600 bachelor, master, PhD doctorate students’, 250 teachers’ and professors’ staff upgraded their knowledge and skills in developing curricula and programs, creating methodical and supplementary materials, in drawing up educational programs, strategic planning and business plans, participated in international seminars, conferences and symposia, exchanged student and master programs with the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (Canada), Olds College (Canada), Istanbul University, Istanbul Technical University, Akdeniz University, Ataturk University, Suleyman Demirel University, Sakarya University(Turkey), Kangwon National University, Kangnam University, Andong National University, Kangnam University, Kyonggi University (Republic of Korea), Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, Montana University of Leoben (Austria), Robert Gordon University (Great Britain), University of Ferrara (Italy), University of Lodz China, Katowice School of Economics(Poland), Trakia University (Bulgaria), University of Petroleum-Beijing (PRC)and over 30 Universities of the Russian Federation. Main directions of the projects became petroleum engineering, economics and business, entrepreneurship, agriculture, information technologies, instrumentations, social and humanitarian sciences. Teaching is provided on the basis of the credit technology. The University improves the system of quality management, accomplishes much work on upgrading scientific and staff potential, on strengthening material and technical base. Special attention is paid to providing special disciplines with new electronic textbooks and with innovative educational technology for the teaching process. The undergraduate, master and doctorate PhD program students study through the credit technology widely spread in European and other countries based on the Bologna Declaration. The University annually organizes foreign trips for more than 600 teaching and administrative staff of the university for participation at the international conferences, seminars, symposia, workshops and educational fairs at the invitation of foreign universities and organizations of the CIS, European, Northern and Southern American, Middle Eastern and Asian countries. Under the double degree program, a close relationship has been established with the universities of the Republic of Korea and the People’s Republic of China. Within the framework of this program 6 students of the specialty “Foreign Language: Two Foreign Languages”, “Oil and Gas Studies” have been trained at the University of Kangnam of the Republic of Korea and at the China University of Petroleum-Beijing (PRC). According to the program of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, 19 foreign scientists from Germany, Poland, Japan, Turkey, Russia and Uzbekistan were invited to deliver lectures and conduct consultations to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as to university teachers in the academic year 2017-2019. More than 500 students take bachelor programs in 16 specialty areas in 3 languages Kazakh, Russian and English languages. The university constantly renovates and strengthens its material and technical base which includes 10 educational campuses, 5 student dormitories, 7 sports gyms and 3 playgrounds, the Seykhun sports and recreation complex, a “Students Palace” culturecentre, 7 students’ cafes and canteens, 4 museums, libraries in every campus with electronic reading halls supplied with books, manuals, and other methodical resources covering 2 mln. copies of items. The university contains about 60 specialized laboratories, 58 training studies, and digital language laboratories well-equipped with modern computer facilities. The university has been implementing the cooperative network of information technologies and telecommunication system for the use in the teaching process. All these resources are available for the project partner institutions. For the visiting project partners there will be given a special room for work with communication devices, computer hooked to the internet. The university provides with a special room for administrating and monitoring the project equipped with all facilities. For the visiting professors the university offers the guest house with all modern conveniences, for the exchange students the university offers furnished rooms in the dormitory and equipped with the necessary facilities. The Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda State University does its utmost to introduce and apply ECTS grading scale or a compatible system for converting national grades. The mobility at master or doctoral level leads to a joint or double diploma in the framework of partnership. The Diploma Supplement will be issued at the end of the studies. Moreover, the KKSU practices such kind of experience with Korean, Poland and Chinese Universities. The Korkyt Ata Kyzylorda State University has a department for international cooperation which welcomes students and scholars and provides with the required assistance and necessary consultation. The department is responsible for arranging all the matters concerning visas, welfare services and services for students and all the activities aiming at social integration. The university provides housing facilities to the students and scholars involved in the projects.
