Gaston De la Haye

Gaston became Deputy General Secretary of Education International in 2006, following the decision of the World Confederation of Teachers (WCT) to integrate with EI. As a Senior Consultant to the General Secretary he now bears the responsibility for EI’s EFAIDS programme, the Quality Education project and the representation of EI in the Council of Europe. A Belgian national, Gaston was a full time lecturer in the Haute Ecole Mosane d’Enseignement Supérieur (HEMES), Liège, from 1966 until 1996 after completing a pedagogic degree in Germanic languages. Between 1991 and 1995 he was an appointed member of the High Council of Higher Economic Education of the Belgian French speaking Community, and from 1991 untill 1996 he was elected President of the Higher Education Committee and International Relations Officer of the CCPET (now known as the CSC Enseignement). In 1996 he obtained a masters degree in Political Sciences (Economic and Social Politics). He was appointed General Secretary of the WCT in the same year.
