A Graduate of Pedagogical and Psychological Sciences at from University and University College Gent (Belgium) Kristien Carnel is specialised in the areas of reflective practice, assessment policy, and cooperation with training schools. Since 1993 she has been head of department for Teacher Education, Primary School Teacher Education at University College Leuven (KHLeuven). In this position she has gathered expertise on competence-based curriculum design, along her responsibilities as Manager and Senior Lecturer. Ms Carnel has developed since 2001 an assessment strategy for formerly acquired competences and translate the profile for Teachers (Belgium decree 2006) into a competence profile for students at the Teacher Education. Moreover she is currently involved in the ZOISS project, a participative approach of teacher training practice, in which the quality of the learning environment in training schools is mapped in order to improve the starting competences of novel teachers.
